Space Event 2019 – Report

We look back to the sixth Space Event!

On June 4th 2019 more than 150 people came together to listen to fascinating talks on space and aerospace engineering and find out more about the projects of the TU Wien Space Team. The Austrian space sector was strongly represented as well: Members of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, the Austrian Space Forum or companies like RUAG Space and Schiebel were present in the audience.

In the extraordinary TUtheSky at the TU Wien – looking over the inner city of Vienna – TU Wien Space Team’s president Christoph Fröhlich told the story of the beginnings of the team. Then various team members gave short presentations on current projects:

We also had the honour to welcome three guest speakers at this year’s Space Event:

  • Rudolf Schmidt, former project mananger of the ESA-mission MarsExpress, reported on surprisingly successful missions and big setbacks in the European and American space programmes.
  • The cabaret artist and musician Günther Paal, also known as “Gunkl”, encouraged the audience to reflect on the implications of manned missions to the Moon and to Mars.
  • Werner Weiss from the University of Vienna gave insights into several Austrian cubesat-missions and explained the advantages of microsatellites compared to their expensive and heavy counterparts.

We thank everyone who was present at the event and are looking forward to the next Space Event in 2020!

A special thank you goes to the FFG for their financial support of the event!
